Nanbantei was founded over 50 years ago in Roppongi, Tokyo, by Mr. Eizo Watanabe (渡邉 栄三). It began as a modest establishment committed to serving authentic yakitori—grilled skewers that exemplify the artistry of Japanese grilling.
The name "Nanbantei" embodies a rich cultural narrative; "Nanban" translates to "southern barbarian," a term historically used for foreign traders, while "Tei" denotes a place of rest or teahouse.
